This week…
I was depressed for no obvious reason this week. As usual, I survived and beat myself afterwards. (This behaviour is common, but not condoned!)
A friend of mine is having a holiday at His Majesty’s pleasure, and this started me thinking about the prison of our minds. A Nelson Mandela quote would be uplifting….
Even if you have a terminal disease, you don't have to sit down and mope. Enjoy life and challenge the illness that you have.
So, today’s article is about the imprisonment that we all can relate to. It is the chains that bind us from within that limit our freedom most. Enjoy it while you can.
Perception is deceptive
“How come someone experiences outside events as very pleasurable while another person is annoyed by the same circumstances? It seems that everyone has different interpretations of what’s happening around them. What’s gold for someone is mud to someone else. So, what’s preferable, unpleasant, beautiful, or undesirable, although consensus exists, ultimately lies in the eye of the beholder”.
“Rather than directly solving our personal problems, non-action and meditation can help us to step away from our preoccupation with our problems, and this change in emphasis can sometimes make space for new solutions to arise or for the problem itself to diminish on its own. Some problems are better dissolved than solved”.
Gil Fronsdal, The Action of Non-Action
Good on you, Helen Dew!
This wonderful antipodean survived a heart attack during Covid-19, but her life’s achievements, both before and after that, are amazing.
It’s amazing to glimpse the attitudes and mindsets of others that work quietly in the suburbs and lane ways of our cities.
Mental Health is important for everyone, and some people just seem to have great health and others struggle.
I appreciate that you do not complain when I don’t get these newsletters out on time. Thanks.
