AFF Newsletter Gets It
Roscoe, a sober father and writer, published a survival kit for alcoholics that have returned to the well.
You see, human beings are not perfect (although I have been called a Perfect Arsehole a few times). The shortest journey between two points is a straight line, but who does that?
Some people don’t drink after their first meeting, but that doesn’t make them perfect. It may mean that they have drunk enough to move to the next stage of the journey, or that they have a tighter sphincter! I don’t know, because this is my sixth attempt.
Well done, Roscoe.
Talking About Perfection
The first of the Six Perfections is generosity. Giving can take several guises, like giving money and other resources, or love.
“From a recovering addict's perspective, this 'transformative power' can be life-saving. The addict often succumbs to his disease until he finds a new way of living that involves selflessness, mindfulness, and spirituality. This approach serves as the gateway to all that is good”.
This week we look at how turning our selfishness, self-centredness, and self will around is not only beneficial, but necessary.
Of course, we all take different journey’s and travel different speeds. What do those Muslims say—“All roads lead to Muhammed”.
Talkin’ Islam
Here is a fascinating poem attributed to Hafez…
Door of The Tavern
Thank God the door of the Tavern is open and I am needy at His door. The vats are all boiling and crying out of drunkeness. Only the wine of truth can be found there. Not that of falsehood. From Him comes drunkeness, pride and aloofness. From us comes helplessness, self-effacement, and neediness. The secret, which I’ve never told anyone, and will never share with anyone, I shall reveal to the friend – my only confidant. The tale of the twist and wave of my Beloved’s curl cannot be abridged. It is indeed a long story. I have stopped looking at the entire world Since I have gazed upon your beautiful face. Whoever comes to the district of your Kaba Will begin praying immediately upon beholding the qiblah of your eyebrows. Oh, people of the assembly! If you are interested in the burning of Haze’s heart, Ask the candle as it burns and thaws away.
Still Thirsty?
This Todd Perlemuter video reflects a lot on what I have been thinking this week. The present moment is razor-thin.
